Amador Espinosa selflessly dedicated 56 years of loyal service to the Redondo Beach Police Department (RBPD) and the Redondo Beach (RB) community. His determination, persistence, resilience, dedication, longevity and sacrifice in the face of adversity while serving the City of Redondo Beach serves as a reminder and an example for all to emulate.
A lifelong resident, Amador graduated from Redondo Union High School (June 1942) and joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a tail gunner with the 445th Bombardment Group from 1943 to 1945. After World War II, Amador worked two jobs while completing coursework in Foreign Correspondence at Woodbury College. Postwar America was a difficult time for Mexican-Americans. Amador qualified for a police officer position with the Redondo Beach Police Department but was denied due to his ethnicity. Undeterred, and determined to work for the Redondo Beach Police Department, Amador was hired in 1956 as a Clerk Stenographer. Soon thereafter, Amador worked diligently and was promoted to Administrative Secretary to the Chief of Police; in this position he served under eight police chiefs during his 37-year tenure. In 1993, just six months after his retirement, Amador returned to serve the Redondo Beach Police Department where he volunteered for the next 19 years. |
