Of what is to come in Redondo Beach
How Did We Get Here?
In 2010 Redondo Beach Residents voted to support the Local Coastal Plan (LCP) that was approved by the California Coastal Commission. As one can imagine, the zoning within this plan required a considerable amount of compromise starting off at 750,000 sq ft of allowable new development and settling on 450,000 sq ft of allowable new development. Residents understand and agreed that our waterfront is aging and long overdue for revitalization. Our waterfront is a jewel for all to enjoy. Everyone should be able to see and reach the coast as much as possible.

An Aging Waterfront
A recent report revealed that regardless what the city does to revitalize the waterfront with or without The Waterfront, someone will need to find somewhere between $37.5M to as much as $108M to replace the waterfront’s various public improvements and infrastructure.
Currently, the coastline is difficult to access by all modes of transportation – foot, bicycle and vehicle—because the area is not well connected and many parts, like Seaside Lagoon are fenced off or simply off limits for part of the year.

The Future!
The Waterfront will connect the currently disjointed coastline so that pedestrians and bicycles can access and enjoy much more of it as well. The project will also include a bike and pedestrian bridge from one side of the project to the other.
With the opportunity to enjoy events so much closer to the water, Redondo’s already well known summer events will be even more fun! The waterfront has always been about bringing together and celebrating community, especially through community events, and a revitalized waterfront will only enhance these experiences.
The Chamber envisions The Waterfront, once it is completed, to be the perfect place for friends and families to gather, enjoy the beautiful coastline and attend these wonderful events. There is so much potential in the waterfront area and with your help, we can bring new life to it!
